Fire Protection…..A Priority, Both at Home and Workplace!!
Fires pose significant risks to companies and residential properties, leading to injuries, damage, and lost trust. By implementing a comprehensive fire prevention and preparedness program, you can safeguard your employees, visitors, and property from such risks. Partnering with fire protection companies in Abu Dhabi ensures access to expert guidance and reliable solutions. Follow these best practices to effectively prepare your facility for a fire emergency and mitigate potential damages.
If you own, manage or control a commercial property, you are required by law to protect everyone who lives in, works within or visits your building from the threat of fire as far as is possible. This involves assessing the risks and specific hazards present within your environment and then installing appropriate fire safety measures accordingly, including equipment such as fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers and emergency lighting.
However, it’s important that you don’t stop there. Instead, it is hugely beneficial to provide professional fire safety training for your staff, or chosen designated employees, ensuring that they have the knowledge to respond safely and effectively in the event of a fire.
Fire accidents in buildings and establishments across the UAE decreased by 41% during the first half of 2017, below the targets set by the General Command of the Civil Defence fire safety strategy for 2017- 2021, according to GCCD statistics.
“The number of fires that broke out in buildings and establishments and handled by Civil Defence Centers across the country during the first half of 2017 reached 928, leaving 115 injured and 12 dead,” said Major General Al Marzouki, the General Commander of the Civil Defence, noting that the number of fatalities fell by 8% and injuries by 47% below the targets set for the GCCD 2017-2021.
House fires accounted for 61% of total fires nationwide, 87% of which are minor accidents, according to the statistics.
The timely response to fire accidents, the introduction of modern fire prevention technology, qualified firefighters, sustained public awareness campaigns against risks of fires, and intensified efforts to meet challenges as a united team are the factors behind the success achieved.
Key factors to be focused at to avoid any fire incident at your commercial facilities may include
1. Implement a program that includes preparation, prevention, and recognition of fire hazards.
2. Make sure you practice proper handling of combustible and flammable material.
3. Maintain safe housekeeping practices that reduce the risk of fire danger.
4. Always keep adequate fire suppression equipment in your work area to extinguish fire before it goes out of control.
Al Marzouki attributed the success in reducing the number of fires across the country to the prudent directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to take all necessary measures and mobilise all needed resources and state-of- the-art technologies to ensure rapid emergency response through qualified fire fighting cadres, concerted action and teamwork spirit to help achieve the aspired goals of the GCCD.
He noted that the Civil Defence follows best practices adopted in the field in line with international standards and criteria, including latest know-how to ensure best possible levels of control, security and alarm systems.
